It’s time again for American Airlines’ Celebrated Living magazine to announce the winners of our annual Platinum List Awards, which honor the world’s top hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars, and travel experiences. Out of more than 215 nominees, 77 winners from 19 countries have been chosen as the best of the best. As always, this year’s properties are renowned for combining unique experiences with superb design and exceptional service.

The nominees were chosen by a distinguished panel of experts in the fields of media, fashion, food, sports and the arts. (Click here to read more about the panel.) Their selections were then voted upon by our readers, whose opinions decided the winners.

These champions of hospitality represent the widely diverse and cosmopolitan views of our experts and voters, from the sleek Upper House hotel in Hong Kong to the idyllic Turtle Inn resort on the coast of Belize to Chicago’s clandestine Ladies’ Room cocktail lounge. Along the way we visit the remote Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland, Canada, take in sweeping vistas from cliffside dwellings at Perivolas on Santorini, enjoy mountain recreation at Aspen’s posh Little Nell resort, and soak up the historic grandeur of Ireland’s Ashford Castle.

In an exclusive interview, Platinum List expert and Travel Channel personality Ashlan Cousteau discusses the sublime relaxation she enjoys at California’s Golden Door spa. We also pay a visit to the kitchen of star chef Massimo Bottura, whose Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, was named number one on the 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Other delicious scenes include the Mykonos hotpot Nammos, New York’s elegant Polo Bar, the splendid Le Sirenuse in Miami, and the urbane Scarfes Bar in London.

We’re also excited to announce that the Platinum List issue will come to life on October 12 with a panel at the highly anticipated New York City Wine & Food Festival. Titled “The Future of Luxury Travel,” the event will investigate what it means to create a truly top-tier experience in an ever evolving industry (for more info, click here). Participating Platinum List experts and winners will include Ashlan Cousteau, event producer Cheryl Gentry, chef Abe Conlon (winner of this year’s James Beard Best Chef: Great Lakes award), 1 Hotels director of food and beverage Matt Erickson, and Guy Young of The Travel Corporation, which operates Ashford Castle and the Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection.

So, whether readers are interested in sampling vintages at Spain’s stunning Marqués de Riscal winery or hearing transcendent jazz at New Orleans’ Preservation Hall, the 2018 Platinum List is sure to be a valuable resource for travelers as they select the places they want to visit in the year ahead.
